Recently ACBuG were delighted to welcome Mark Ruskell MSP to Auchterarder to chat about the Town Bus.
A member of the Scottish Green Party, Mark is an MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife (Region) and is the Green Party’s spokesperson on transport.
We were able to explain to Mark about the identified need for the Town Bus, highlight how the bus service was planned, summarise some of the successes over the last five years, as well as detail the funding challenges we continue to face in retaining the Town Bus as an important community resource.
In addition to ACBuG Trustees, several bus users were at the meeting and gave Mark their own personal accounts of the value and the importance of the Town Bus in terms of accessing the wider community, addressing concerns of isolation for some residents, and working with other local initiatives such as Cosy Spaces.
Mark then asked a series of questions before making some very welcome, positive, observations about the transformative impact of the Town Bus. Mark closed the meeting by offering to support ACBuG’s efforts to try and achieve a more sustainable future for the bus service in Auchterarder.
